This collection of animal coloring pages for 3-year-olds includes familiar subjects such as cats, dogs, rabbits, and sea creatures, along with playful scenes and wild animals. Children can start with an animal they recognize and choose colors for its larger shapes.

Start with familiar shapes

Ears, tails, a turtle’s shell, and wings are easy details to point out and name together. On pages with several animals, choose one to color first. On simpler designs, children can pick colors for the animal and the open spaces around it.

Use the picture to start a conversation

As children color, an adult can ask what the animal is, where it lives, or which colors it might have. There is no need to match nature exactly: a purple rabbit or a multicolored fish gives children room to try their own ideas.

Let the child set the pace

The fill tool can quickly cover large areas, while the brush lets children add color to smaller details such as eyes, wings, or fins. With crayons or colored pencils on paper, work on one area at a time and take a break when needed. Children can switch to another page when they are ready to meet a different animal.
